DLS Ecklite Evolution is an insulating glass unit which integrates two different electrically driven louver blinds in the cavity for solar, glare and privacy control.

System Performance

Light-guiding louvers are designed to reflect as much daylight as possible toward the ceiling so as to deepen daylight penetration in the room and decrease light penetration downwards to avoid glare and thermal discomfort from solar gains. DLS Ecklite Evolution proposes a zoned system to enhance these effects: in the upper part of the glass, it relies on louvers with a concave section for active light redirection, and in the vision area it uses louvers with a convex section for solar and glare control. The main objective of these light-redirecting blinds is to provide light control combined with good vision through the system, which allow the blinds to remain mostly open (i.e slats in quasi-horizontal positions). A gradual adjustment of the blinds (lifting, lowering and twisting) is possible, which allows multiple louvers to be moved simultaneously, either individually or in groups, as a function of sun angle and lighting conditions. If necessary, it is also possible to completely remove the louvers in both areas and provide unobstructed view out. The system can be automatically operated via a switch or a remote control. For a more advanced lighting analysis and project specific results, we recommend using the Lightsolve program (under development).

System Description

The system is a double or triple insulated glass sandwich, the blinds being housed in the cavity of the unit. A standard composition for a triple vertical glazing comprises: 6mm security glass + 32 mm cavity with silver or stone grey louvers (concave in the upper area and convex in the vision area) + 6mm security and thermal glass + 12mm buffer + 6mm security and thermal glass. A 12mm vertical spacer bar with a protective profile between the two sets of blinds avoids light leaks and prevents the blinds from touching the glass coating. The highly flexible louvers are made of an aluminum alloy anodized or color coated, offering a minimum thickness of 0.17mm and a width of 15mm. The maximum unit width is 1800 mm (min. 450 mm) and its height is 3600 mm. Larger dimensions are available upon request, and depending on application may be possible up to approx. 2400 x 4000 mm. The unit is held with aluminum or wood frames that are 50-60 mm thick. The winding mechanism, motors and gears are placed on the top of the unit.
