V-KOOL business is in the marketing of top quality and high performance window films under the V-KOOL brand in the architectural and automotive industry. The product had its origin in the 1970s, where the oil embargo prompted scientists to develop a transparent heat filtering coating, that was subsequently commercialized by Southwall Technologies Inc. Today the film, under the brand V-KOOL has had its presence in more than 27 countries around the world.

The V-Kool heat filtering clear window films are used to decrease solar heat gain penetration by reflecting heat while allowing for visible light to be transmitted.
System Performance
High performance clear window films improve the thermal qualities of a window assembly by increasing their resistance to solar heat gains: infrared radiation is selectively reflected and visible light transmitted. In contrast to window treatments based on a general reflective mechanism, the V-KOOL films, while providing up to 99% UV protection, do not darken the interior. The result is a decrease in internal temperature without increasing the requirement for electric lighting. Four different types of V-KOOL window films are available commercially with the Solitaire, Signature, Stature and Meteorite films providing various levels of reflectivity, transparency and solar gain factors suited for a range of applications in commercial and residential environments. For a more advanced lighting analysis and project specific results, we recommend using the Lightsolve program (under development).

System Description
V-KOOL films consist of a multi-layered sputter coating deposited on a polyester layer. The proprietary sputter coating process ensures a high density and uniformity essential in creating the thin reflective metal and metal oxide coating on the polyester substrate. A pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to the film, which ensures a strong bond with the glass it is applied to. To protect the film it is recommended to apply it on the interior of the window assembly. The simplicity of the application process allows for the films to be used in new systems as well as for retrofitting existing ones. Once applied the film requires little maintenance. V-KOOL films are available in rolls 1.5m (60”) or 1.8m (72”) in width and 30.5m (100’) in length. Energy savings are expected from reducing cooling loads.
