Vision Control Panel
Part of:  Light Guiding Embedded Blinds

Made by:  Unicel Vision Control
Used by: Hks  Corley Redfoot Zack

Unicel’s Vision Control panel uses dynamic hollow-chambered louvers set within a Glass Insulating Unit to provide deeper daylight penetration whilst controlling solar heat gains, glare, privacy and sights.

System Performance

Vision Control glass panels are made with interlocking slats able to rotate 180 degrees for blinds installed horizontally or vertically. By the shape and finish of the louvers and their rotation, as well as the diffusion as it passes through the louvers, Vision Control contributes to a better natural light distribution within the room: daylight penetrates more deeply into the room and direct sunlight gets reflected back outside to minimize overheating risks indoors. In cold climates, the louvers can be oriented parallel with the sun’s rays to allow sunlight pass unhindered, which would maximize usage of solar heat. By adjusting the slats at different degrees of opening, it is possible to balance privacy and visibility too. For a more advanced lighting analysis and project specific results, we recommend using the Lightsolve program (under development).

System Description

Vision Control is commonly made with 1/4” (6mm) clear tempered glass on both sides of a 2” (50.8mm) airspace, where the pivoting aluminum louvers are inserted and sealed through hand-made assembly (craftsmanship). The system is hermetically sealed and has high resistance against UV. The specifically designed hollow-chambered louvers provide maximum rigidity and strength and maintain a parallel alignment of the slats. Louvers may be installed either horizontally or vertically. Made of rigid, extruded aluminum, the louvers are available in three profile types:

1 3/8” x 1/4” (35 mm x 6mm) thick to a maximum glass width of 48” (1219mm)
1 3/8” x 3/8” (35 mm x 10mm) thick to a maximum glass width of 58” (1473mm)
1 3/8” x 1/2” (35 mm x 13mm) thick to a maximum glass width of 68” (1727mm)

Various glazing products and polycarbonates are available based on applications needs and project specifications. The units can be manufactured in various shapes, while the slats can have different colors.
